Director Of Project Controls
As a project controls consultant, I utilize my experience as a financial manager in an industrial construction space to develop tools to actualize budgets and estimate forecasted final costs on projects.
Cfo - Pocahontas Parkway
As the CFO of Pocahontas Parkway, I served as the Finance Manger & Officer for the P3 Infrastructure Concession Asset, as well as our Operations & Maintenance company, Globalvia Operations USA. I also managed the finances of the related holding companies, the U.S. development company, and our innovative mobility app, Slora.
Accounting Sme - Global Finance Agile Team
As a contract resource, I was a member of the Global Finance Agile Team, and contributed to multiple projects for the Retail Bank. Our team was focused on designing & implementing accounting controls & processes for multiple Retail Bank efforts - which required both collaboration & influencing of multiple teams to achieve success. For most of 2016, I was assigned to a team that focused on multiple efforts that supported the Retail Bank's Finance team. This included efforts to add account functionality to customer-facing ambassadors, to digitally connect bank customers with investment products, as well as other back end reporting and regulatory efforts. In late 2016, I shifted onto a second team that focused on the KOIOS project - which planned to move millions of bank customers to a new real time transaction & reporting platform that was key to the Retail Bank's strategy. My focus on this new team was researching gaps & deficiencies between these two platforms, then defining scope to develop resolutions on these gaps. To achieve this, I developed a SharePoint site to inventory all the identified items, and provide consistency and transparency to our multiple stakeholders. Once these items were identified and cataloged, priorities were determined and individual gaps were resolved by our team.
Controller
After being recruited to The Earth Partners by the former Senior Project Manager at Iluka Resources, my original role was to lead the Project Controlling effort for a planned biofuels plant in Louisiana as well as serve as Corporate Controller for the company's other entities. Once the plans to build the plant were shelved, I focused on the company's sole operational asset in Rapid City, SD. This entity had been acquired prior to my arrival, and the financial records were neither accurate nor complete. In my short stint with The Earth Partners, I led an effort to rebuild the financial records of this acquisition, including 1) develop processes, procedures, and controls for the on site staff, 2) develop a costing model for all raw, in process, & finished inventory, 3) renegotiate multiple vendor contracts and financing agreements, and 4) identify and prove there were undisclosed liabilities that resulted in an 8% refund on the purchase price of the entity from the seller.
Cost Controller - Major Projects
As a member of the Planning & Development team, I was charged with building a capital budget for Iluka's strategically important Hickory project outside Stony Creek, VA. As the cost controller, I controlled a $10M design budget and collaborated with engineers, geologists, and mine managers to build a detailed $120M construction budget including a risk-weighted contingency estimate. When the Hickory project was delayed for additional engineering in Nov 2013, I was then asked to accomplish the same task on the next strategic project in the pipeline, Aurelian Springs in NC. In Mar 2014, I was also tasked with assembling & managing a capital budget for all US operations, including several capital projects for mine operations ranging from <$100k to >$4M, and a total capex budget in excess of $15M.
Manager Of Special Projects
With a desire to explore a new field and gain new experience, I joined Team Tattershall to learn more about real estate brokerage, management, and development. As the learning curve was steep, I was quickly meeting with prospective tenants, negotiating leases, assisting with maintenance needs of properties, and taking on various special projects. Two notable projects I was responsible for were 1) the assignment of a 5 property portfolio for a local bank and 2) acting as construction project manager for a 4 unit renovation project. The rental assignment project involved developing the company's proposal for the bank, communicating the changes with the tenants, and reporting regular progress to the bank. The renovation project involving scoping the project, building a budget, securing the financing from the lender, selecting contractors, managing the daily progress of the project, and securing payments from the lender. In the end, both projects added value for the firms clients, in one case a bank with a non-performing loan, and in the other case, a property owner with a non-producing property.
Project Controller - Htfb Incineration & Industrial Systems
Leveraging my experience in forecasting & modeling, I was assigned a role to specifically provide financial support to our project management team. My multiple responsibilities for individual contracts included booking projects, invoicing customers, actualizing budgets to actual costs, reconciling contract change orders & back charges, forecasting revenue, cost, and cash flow streams, as well as clearing open items to close completed projects. In addition to responsibilities for individual projects, I was also responsible for consolidating the forecasting & analysis of revenue & costs for a portfolio of 200+ open projects. Success was measured in accurately budgeting those revenues & costs, then working with project managers to meet revenue milestones, and control costs within budgets.
Assistant Controller / Manager Of Financial Planning & Analysis
Tasked by the CFO to both improve our internal budget & reporting functions as well as build a bridge between finance & operations. Achieved these goals by developing new tools to report & forecast orders, revenue, gross margin on projects, and SG&A expenses. As a subsidiary of a GDF SUEZ, our reporting requirements were detailed and heavy on variance analysis comparing with our 3 annual budget revisions. Establishing a collaborative network with the department managers was critical to achieve our monthly reporting analysis requirements and regular communications with operational managers helped to evaluate how today's delays in production impacted tomorrow's financial statements.
Process Improvement Manager
Joined an organization with an out-gunned accounting function void of internal controls or even reliable account reconciliations and made an impact by helping to complete backlogged audits, reconciling old accounts, and logging numerous correcting entries into the system. In turn, the organization continued to improve by reducing month end reporting manhours as well as fewer audit adjustments and a more efficient audit schedule. Other highlights were completing numerous special projects including replacing the fixed asset subledger, improving related party transaction processing, and developing multiple workpapers needed for internal management reporting & budgeting.
Senior Internal Auditor
Served as lead auditor on team engagements focused on SOX 404 internal controls, balance sheet reviews, and fraud investigations. Assisted in developing PFG's first operational audit program with audit senior management, and implemented the program in a distribution environment where timing is critical, errors lose business, and every penny counts.
Staff Auditor
Assisted audit & assurance teams by communicating with clients, documenting controls & procedures, testing transactions & balances, and reporting results to audit managers & clients.
