With a bachelor's in journalism and experience as one of my college newspaper editors, I became a teacher a few months after graduating as the beginning journalism and photojournalism teacher at Coronado High School (El Paso, Tex.). Two years later I was moved to Bowie High School where I left a journalism team of 5 to build the program up by myself as the yearbook/newspaper adviser and academic competitions coordinator. After picking up organizational, financial budgeting, marketing, and leadership skills in charge of those programs, I accepted a position at Franklin High School, where I am leading the award-winning yearbook program. Over the past year at Franklin and my final 3 years at Bowie, I was also the public address announcer for football, basketball, pep rallies, and most special events.Over the past 2 years, I was accepted into the UTEP professional MBA program where I was able to hold my job and attend class from Fall 2020 - Spring 2022. In Fall 2021, I was invited and compensated by the university to join the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society with a 4.0 average through my courses.As I only need to take one course to graduate in Spring 2022, I will be completing the yearbook during that semester while working on my Project Management Professional certification along with my Six Sigma Green Belt. Despite not being in the private sector the past 10 years, my time completing projects such as the yearbook or running academic competitions with colleagues and students, plus my MBA degree will show that my management and organizational skills are apt for any industry requiring organization or operations management.My long-term goal is to own a firm that would assist local businesses by improving their position in the market through marketing and strategy planning and execution, which I believe would continue to help the city of El Paso grow.
