Dr. Wescott has more than 38 years of petroleum industry experience, from well site to research. He is a Charles H. Taylor Fellow of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and is an Emeritus Member of SEPM, The Sedimentary Society. He received his undergraduate degree in geology from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. After serving in the U. S. Army, he continued his geological education, earning a M.S. degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a Ph.D. from Colorado State University. In 1979 he moved to Houston and until 1984 he worked a series of domestic exploration projects for Amoco Production Company. In 1984 he transferred to Amoco’s international new ventures group and spent the next 15 years engaged in a variety of worldwide exploration activities, predominantly in Africa and the Middle East. From 1988-90 he was the exploration supervisor for Amoco Kenya Petroleum Company in Nairobi, Kenya. He left Amoco when the corporation was acquired by BP in 1999. He established a successful consulting practice specializing in the application of sequence stratigraphy and sedimentology to petroleum exploration and production by integrating seismic, well, and paleontological data. In 2004 he joined Devon Energy Corporation as a Senior Geological Advisor in the International Division. He was hired by El Paso Corporation as a Geological Advisor in their International Business Development group in 2008. From 2014-2017 he worked for the Colombian National Oil Company Ecopetrol.Dr. Wescott has authored or co-authored more than 75 papers, abstracts, book chapters and field guides and presented lectures to universities, professional societies, and oil companies. He has made significant contributions to the fields of sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy.
