As the Finance Director for Asia Pacific, I have a direct reporting relationship with the Corporate Controller based in US headquarter and an administrative reporting line to the Regional Vice President in Singapore. I have direct managerial responsibility over the financial operation in Australia; in addition to a small team in Asia Regional office located in Singapore with a total of 10 direct reports and a total organization size of about 50 around the region. My responsibilities cover the broad spectrum of finance, including but not limited to financial reporting, budgeting, analysis and internal control. At the same time, I am also responsible to work with Audit, Treasury and Tax Departments on related matters in Asia Pacific. My role also included an oversight over the IT operation in the region and a champion for reviewing IT requirement and improvement. One of my major initiatives is to enhance the internal control and efficiency of the financial operation in the region, while at the same time, assists the management to grow the business in double digit for the next five years, through both organic growth and acquisition.Given that, I am responsible to improve the overall working capital utilization, credit control and capital investment together with the local management. I am also intimately involved and responsible for the closing down and eventual liquidation of our China JV plant that involves very complex employee, government and JV partner relationship. As the Finance Director for Spectrum Brands in China and the recently acquired Chinese operation, I stationed in Ningbo overseeing a finance team of fourteen with a plant controller and an IT team of three in the Chinese plant. Reporting to the SVP of Operation for Europe and Asia Pacific, I am also in charge of starting up and overseeing the financial and IT support in the newly established Product Development Center in Shenzhen and a Hong Kong company. Reporting to me was a finance manager and three accounting staff and an IT staff in the two locations. The Shenzhen and Hong Kong operation is to develop into the major sourcing center for the global operation to realize effective product cost reduction and tax benefits. In Ningbo, my task was to bring the acquired Chinese manufacturing facilities financial and IT operation in line with US requirement. I trained and developed the local staff to meet corporate requirements and expectations. I also review and implement an ERP system in Shenzhen to enhance internal control and streamline processes to be SOX compliance and able to meeting reporting deadline. In additional, I recruit and build the finance team for the Shenzhen/Hong Kong operation and managed the SAP implementation in Shenzhen and Hong Kong that goes live on March 2006. I also work with operation people to map out the expansion plan for the plant to grow into one of the largest battery production facility in the world for the company. Along the way, I am to help to enable the company to enjoy the maximum tax and fiscal benefit. I also coordinate with Corporate Treasury to establish the most cost effective method available to finance the operation and manage cash flow in China. In addition, I support the Asia Pacific's Sales and Marketing team to develop business structures that enable sales and distribution expansion in China and I act as the financial advisory for the SVP and the company in dealing with business and operational issues in China.
