The first is the low volume quick turn around market. The other is machining of an exotic alloy called Kovar, which has the same coefficient of expansion as glass. This unique feature allows it to be used in hermetic seals between glass and metal over very large temperature ranges. One of the primary uses for these hermetic seals is in Infrared Imaging Cameras. We have been able to transfer our knowledge and experience with Kovar to machine other exotic alloys such as Titanium, Hastelloy C276, Invar, and a variety of Stainless Steels.
