In my 25 years with the telephone company, I served in various roles. Starting as a Cable Splicer/Service Tech, I used my previous telephone construction experience to help the company with their maintanence issues and taught other techs methods and trouble shooting techniques. I studied project management and used these skills to develope a cost-recovery process for our company that was very successful in recovering lost revenue due to damages. I became a professional damage investigator and the point of contact for cable damages and other issues where people needed to work with our company. Little did I know that this would prepare me for my next career as a Utility Coordinator.

I was a self-employed contract Telephone Cable Splicer where I designed, spliced and placed all types of telephone cable from the old school paper and plastic copper cable to the latest fiber optic cables. I placed and managed all types of cable placing techniques from trenching and plowing to directional boring. I designed and managed outside plant projects for GTE (Frontier today), United Tel (Sprint then CenturyLink), ATT and several REA companies in rural areas of Missouri and Ohio. I worked in a number of positions for many contract companies and had my own business where I employed up to 10 employees. Being a contractor in so many places, for so many different telephone companies, I have an extraordinary and diverse skillset and knowledge of telephone outside plant.
