I am a Special Education Teacher in the Anchor Program at Niles North High School. This program is designed for students who need a highly supportive environment to meet their individual needs, including those with medically fragile needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as social communication needs, (i.e. interpreting non-verbal communication). I plan and implement instruction in the subject areas of English, History, Math, Consumer Education, and Social Pragmatics.

As a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher/ Case Manager at New Trier High School, my duties included: teaching several daily Resource classes; corresponding and collaborating regularly with parents, other faculty and staff; directing the IEP process and managing the special education services for a caseload of 18 students with exceptional learning and emotional needs.

I work in close collaboration with other faculty and staff to support high school special needs students, providing individualized and small-group instruction both in and out of the classroom, specialized behavioral intervention, and tutoring in all subject areas. I also serve as a mentor to at-risk students through the New Trier Student Assistance Program.

Provided individual and small-group instruction in reading and math to students in the low-incidence population during this summer school program. My duties also included the implementation of specialized classroom management techniques and the supervision of daily field trips and recreational activities.

I left this position to complete my student teaching at Niles North High School in Skokie, IL (pursuant to a BA in History and certification as a social studies teacher at the secondary level). Duties included individual and small-group instruction with special needs students (grades 5-8), specialized classroom management, record-keeping and clerical work in support of faculty.
