The initial remit at BPHA was to create a software development organisation from scratch, to enable BPHA to reclaim ownership of its data. Working (in the not-for-profit sector) with a relatively small budget, I’ve created a recruitment process with candidate engagement at its heart and built my development team. Four years on, and that team has developed a resilient integration framework linking the company’s LOB applications (e.g. SUN Finance, MS Dynamics, Orchard Housing Management), managing asset, customer and transactional data across the business. The basic technology stack is .NET Core + MS SQL, with freedom to adopt appropriate technologies, including third-party APIs, REST, RabbitMQ messaging, Azure, Azure ML Studio, GIS, PowerShell.Within the development team I remain hands-on: whiteboarding designs, developing production code in T-SQL, Powershell, HTML/CSS/JS, and R&D/prototyping in areas including Machine Learning and GIS.

Under my management, UPM grew from sub-500 seat market to supporting customers with ~300K seats.Other projects included XenApp Resource Manager, XenApp for Unix and advanced graphics projects.

I mostly developed SNA communications software, latterly specialising in UNIX/STREAMS implementations - for which I designed much of the architecture - and wrote a number of *nix kernel drivers.Working in the Point Of Sale group, I developed supermarket applications for customer hand-held scanners.I worked extensively in client-facing support and education roles, often acting as on-site consultant to integrate the SNA suite with client applications.
