I provided voluntary social work services within a harm reduction model in low income supportive housing in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, where I am born and raised. It was as challenging as it is rewarding. My clients had a lot on their plates, many of whom have been homeless for years before being housed in the building I worked at. I provided connection and support in just about anything. Overall and most importantly, I met clients wherever they were at to provide non judgmental support in maintaining and achieving what we all deserve: housing, health and happiness.

This was my first full time job in the helping profession. I worked as a counselor and case manager facilitating the Evening Reporting Center; an after school diversion program for pre-adjudicated youth in the juvenile justice system aimed at lowering recidivism. I learned a lot about planning programming and curriculum, connecting with parents and school staff to coordinate care, and how to form trusting therapeutic relationships with clients.
