About William Glass

Good policy does not sell itself. That’s where I come in.After a decade building brands in service-based and ecommerce spaces, I had a brief chat with some friends about a political campaign they were running. Gave a couple insights blending my perception of what voters wanted and the political headwinds they were facing. They operationalized them, went in a new direction, and they won (all credit to them)..Shortly after, they recommended me for a job, and ever since, I’ve been the comms and policy lead at the Millennial Debt Foundation – which since 2019 has summoned millennials to a conversation about the slow-motion disaster that is the US national debt, and the cost it will impose on millennials and their children. In that capacity, I’ve grown the organization’s reputation and our issue’s mindshare among millennial voters by communicating opaque points of policy in terms of their effects on what millennial voters do care about. I have drafted talking points for television appearances, floor speeches for the US House, op-eds for policy and political leaders, whitepapers, storyboards and scripts for issue videos, crafting messages that summon millennial voters as new stakeholders in conversations that did not include them before. As part of this effort, I have led campaigns that avoid typical political jargon and tactics, using ecommerce, edu-tainment, and creative partnerships to engage the politically avoidant. Included in this effort is the In the Black campaign, a values-based e-commerce store offering a specialty license plate to raise awareness of the national debt, which I have overseen as it grew from a freshly launched concept to the second (and soon first) most-popular specialty plate in Tennessee.I also helped draft What We Owe the Future, a set of 10 common-sense policy recommendations that have made their way into the draft forms of bills in both the House and Senate.I haven't wavered in my love for brand-building (shoutout to Responsible Man!), but I’m far more committed to a generational shift in the way fiscal policy is discussed, and I’m thrilled to say we’re well on our way.

Listed skills include Leadership, Public Speaking, Customer Service, Leadership Development, and 6 others.

Founder

Telescope exists because during the pandemic, we found that search marketing had lost touch with the complications of a customer journey. It was the *creation* and context of search queries that allowed us to take our first SaaS client from 0 to $1M ARR in 4 months. What was needed was a synthesis of content marketing, creative production, and brand, to shape customer awareness and set the terms for a conversation such that our clients appeared as the answers to the the whole range of questions their customers and prospects ask about the world. We position our brands as answers to questions asked throughout the entire search, and our blend of technical, data, and creative expertise allows our clients to meet the questions wherever they are asked – not simply on search engines.

Sr Director Of Marketing (Demand-Gen)

Chattanooga, Tn, Us

Jun 2020 - Nov 2020

Executive Pastor And Head Of Business Operations

My mission was to upgrade our business operations and communications processes. Supervising over 15 people directly, and overseeing four organizational levels, I ran strategy and operations for a large church and several lines of business (~$1.5M pa). I directed our HR, budget and financials, sales and marketing, training and development, and communications. With the help of a brilliant team, I built systems that integrated all these disciplines and achieved best-in-class results at low cost.I inherited a year when we were in deep debt from our startup phase, and we cut it down to a third. We increased our monthly giving while eliminating five figures a month in op expenses and losing no net staff. I created a communications and marketing funnel that increased our small groups participation from under 40% to over 95% (with deeper buy-in and revenue increases exceeding my goal of 15% growth). My team built a world-class music and production organzation, which in the era of Covid-19 has given MChatt a digital experience as good as those of churches many times its size.I brought our restaurant into the black for the first time in nearly a decade by simplifying offerings around customer favorites while refocusing on quality control and training. I led a team of digital marketing interns from UTC to produce half a year's worth of digital assets in 8 weeks. Their work resulted in bigger message penetration than we had ever had, while increasing restaurant revenue by 20% yoy even in slower summer months. At the same time, I project-managed a $3.5M new building project on-time and at budget, while raising nearly a million dollars in public and private donations. That final building included multiple lease spaces, which I filled to 50% occupancy before leaving the role and in spite of Covid-19.Before I am anything else, I am a coach who tries to see the whole operational board and develop strategies my team can use to achieve every goal.

Nov 2018 - Jun 2020

Founder

Heelflip Media

I founded Heelflip Media out of a conviction that responsive marketing campaigns forge deeper and more abiding connections with customers and therefore will outperform big-box solutions, even at scale. We combined bleeding-edge machine learning technology with huge datasets to give our clients sharper ears than anyone else could give them. Our paid and organic media campaigns deployed full stack creative assets around messages that spoke to immediate concerns of our clients' targeted segments, and we forged deep loyalty connections that lowered acquisition cost and delivered customer LTV nobody else could touch. Our paid and organic search campaigns served as powerful first-contact points to sales funnels and digital assets that added value, built relationships, and created serious measurable increases in sales and customer loyalty.I founded and grew Heelflip Media from one person to a team of 25 employees and full-time contractors before selling to a larger competitor in 2018. I built partnerships that gave me access to datasets typically acquired only by much larger firms. While spearheading business development, I built and oversaw the creative, budgetary, and media elements of a complex agency, while developing leaders who have gone on to senior technical and creative positions within some of the world's best ad and marketing agencies.

Aggregate Quality Assurance Specialist

Tallahassee, Florida, Us

With a fantastic team of people, I worked to ensure the quality of aggregate (rocks!) that made its way onto Florida's highways. I inspected mines, assisted aggregate producers in the making of quality control programs that would help to ensure their product met specifications established by the State of Florida, and would monitor and test their material as appropriate. Additionally, I helped the Aggregate Control Team to automate several processes using web technology, with the goal to replace inefficient and double filing practices. The process was being implemented as I concluded my employment at FDOT.
