About Will Megarry

I am an archaeologist, GIS practitioner and heritage management specialist currently employed as Reader in Archaeology in the School of Natural and Built Environment at Queen's University Belfast, where I teach on a range of topics including archaeological techniques, heritage management practice and the archaeology of islands. My current research explores the intersections between climate change and cultural heritage.I am the ex-focal point for climate at the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and was co-chair of the International Co-Sponsored Meeting on Culture, Heritage and Climate Change. I remain an expert member of the International Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management (ICAHM).I have also published widely on climate heritage related topics and the intersection between geospatial technologies, archaeology and heritage management; specifically, climate risk, knowledge exchange and matters relating to World Heritage.I am passionate about the power of education and learning to drive change and am currently working on a range of projects which promote climate literacy and overcome barriers to climate action in the heritage sector. Two ongoing and recent projects include the CVI Africa Project which is exploring capacity building and vulnerability assessment on the continent of Africa and the Heritage on the Edge Project, exploring the impacts of climate change through the lens of five iconic World Heritage properties
