I secured an Internship with the Library’s, Research and Information team to transform election results from the 2017 Queensland Election, for all polling booths in the State.The purpose of the project is to use the polling booth data to create booth-level result maps, which show the percentage of votes received by individual candidates at polling places. The project involves data cleaning and transformation, manipulation and structuring of large datasets, validation of polling booth locations, and the preliminary development of an online spatial tool for visualization and exploration of the resulting dataset. The project involved using QGIS, National Maps and Google Earth to map the polling data and Microsoft Excel for data cleaning and transforming.At the end of the project, I developed a research question in which I would use the polling information and other information gathered to produce a project about Secession in Queensland. This project was presented in front of industry partners as an oral presentation as well as written up as a research paper.
