Purchased a beauty salon at Haverford and City Avenues. Responsible for managing and motivating up to six operators, including their customer service training and overseeing all financial aspects of the salon.Accomplishments: After a successful term as Vice President of the Haverford Avenue Business Association representing my salon, I was voted in as President and have been instrumental in procuring seven million dollars for the Haverford Avenue Business Corridor redevelopment project. As the liaison between the business corridor and the City of Philadelphia, I work closely with all of the businesses in our area as well as the Commerce Department, Parks and Recreation, the State Representative's Office, and with Councilman Curtis Jones Jr.’s office.

Pottstown, Pennsylvania

Responsible for achieving enrollment and financial goals through managing all aspects of the Workforce Development and Continuing Education department which included 190 programs in 16 locations. Responsibilities include: planning, development, implementation, and marketing of the college’s workforce development and non-credit courses for the West Campus. Coordinate initiatives with local businesses & industries, Tri-County Chamber of Commerce, school districts, community groups, economic development organizations, and agencies to design training that meets customized and general needs. Accomplishments: Wrote and received grant funding to create a free GED program which had a success rate of 80%. Also received funding to establish a free summer Teen College Camp for at-risk teenagers in which the participants were paid to attend. Established workforce development training programs with Borough of Pottstown and other local companies. Implemented an Elementary School Spanish program for the Spring-Ford School District. Started a satellite operation at the Western Center for Technical Studies to offer vocational non-credit courses. Establish relationships with the business community that lead to increased fee-based customized training, as well as increasing grants through the state Customized Job Training grant program. Developed several new courses and managed implementation including promotion and hiring instructors. Designed new programs in partnership with directors of degree programs and external partnerships with professional and community organizations. Managed the operation to earn a financial surplus. Accomplishments: Wrote grant funding to assist large national corporations through the Department of Community and Economic Development. Increased corporate training through customized AutoCAD training, computer training, and state workforce development grants. Expanded continuing education revenue by over 60% annually. Doubled the amount of non-credit continuing education courses by concentrating on core markets. Specialized in the development of new Allied Health courses and increased revenue in existing courses such as Expanded Function Dental Assisting by 500%.

The Enterprise Center is a non-profit economic development organization in West Philadelphia, which assists entrepreneurs in building their businesses. As a member of the executive staff, designed sales training and marketing plans for the entrepreneurs as well as their staffs via classroom instruction or one-on- one training. Made sales calls with and for companies within the program and helped them develop new markets. Was part of the team that earned the #1 Business Incubator of the Year award globally in 1998.Accomplishments: Assisted entrepreneurs in increasing revenues over 400%.

Nationally recognized and award-winning Renaissance Magazine was a full-color achievement oriented magazine serving the African American Community of Greater Philadelphia, but with subscribers on a national basis. My responsibilities were to oversee advertising sales and marketing, editorial content, circulation, distribution, production, promotion, and every other aspect of producing a lifestyle magazine. Was instrumental in the research and development of the first issue. Ranked #1 in sales volume for each issue.
