Bill Olson is the Global Sustainability Director for Benchmark Electronics in Phoenix, Arizona. In his Corporate Responsibility (CR) manager role Bill works to understand, improve and report on a diverse array of thin film semiconductor electronic materials, manufacturing process equipment and technologies that are produced by ASM for semiconductor component manufacturers around the world. In that role Bill drives the company’s efforts to benchmark Corporate Responsibility including leadership of the overall Corporate Social Responsibility strategy and annual CR reporting. This includes partnering with critical internal stakeholders (engineering, supply chain, account management, manufacturing, finance, HR, marketing) and external stakeholders (suppliers, customers, NGO’s), establishing key metrics to provide transparency and drive improvements and regularly communicating progress as a culturally diverse, world-class organization that drives innovation and delivers excellence. As Conflict Minerals compliance lead Bill serves on a number of conflict minerals related work groups through Responsible Minerals Initiative and drives global conflict minerals data collection and reporting for ASM.

In his Product Sustainability role Bill works to understand and improve the environmental impacts, sustainability and performance of computer data storage and network storage solutions. Bill leads Seagate Technology's Conflict Minerals compliance program and serves on the CFSI Steering Committee and several conflict minerals related work groups. As a coleader on the iNEMI HDD Value Recovery project Bill is working to maximize the value of computer hard disk drive solutions over their life cycle, improve their environmental footprint and maximize the recovered value of the equipment at end of life. Finally, Bill also leads efforts to implement a next generation compliance assurance system (full materials disclosure, conflict minerals) for Seagate Technology products.

In his role, Bill has combined his digital six sigma skills with new technology implementation to reduce cost and improve the quality, reliability and environmental attributes of Motorola products. Bill leads a key corporate initiative called ECOMOTO, which focuses on the realization of environmentally sound, seamless Motorola mobile products. ECOMOTO seeks to deliver sustained business impact and brand advantage through green materials and innovative ecodesign practices.

Led cross functional research team that founded the lab and established a manufacturing and fabrication process for high temperature superconducting thin film devices useful for high Q filters for wireless applications. Built and led a world class research team that produced the first epitaxial HTS thin film devices by sol gel technology.
