I was the software evangelist for GE's industrial suite and went around giving demos, sales pitches, workshops, training sessions, architecture workouts, and deep dive proof of concepts. My job was to spread the word, build excitement, build competency, and ultimately grow sales in California. I worked with GE's direct sales force, the local channel partners, local integrators, engineering firms, and customers to design and build great industrial automation solutions in California. This was a fun time. We quadrupled sales and built real IoT SCADA and MES solutions using sensors, PLCs, HMI software, Process Historians, and Reporting packages.

As the training manager, I was responsible for managing all aspects of the training department. We had a great time teaching customers how to use Wonderware software and Siemens controllers to build industrial automation systems. I taught a lot of software classes and used this time to hone my presentation skills. When software training is done well, customers will leave the training classes excited about the product and with the necessary tools to build solutions. I didn't know that it would eventually be called the Internet of Things (IoT) but I wanted to start building full automation solutions that leveraged controllers and networked computers to tie all the machines in a manufacturing plant together. I joined the EandM team, because they were already building plant wide automation solutions utilizing SICK sensors, Siemens PLCs, and Wonderware Software. In my first role at EandM, I supported our customers as they deployed sensor, PLC, HMI, SCADA, and Reporting solutions.

As a young engineer, I had a desire to design a new product and build a company. I designed the worlds best keyholder, got a patent, built tooling, and went into production. I oversaw all aspects of the company (finance, sales, marketing, production, quality, and vendor management) and ultimately sold over 75,000 units to customers including Walmart. Doherty Keyholders have a cult following and continue to sell today.

Wolfe Industries is an amazing metal stamping company. I was able to join the team as a tooling engineer where I utilized CAD to design high speed progressive metal stamping dies that we built using CNC milling and EDM machines.

China

During my last year of school I was lucky enough to be selected for a Durfee Foundation fellowship. The fellowship awarded my best friend and I the funding to support a six month trip to China, where we rode a tandem bicycle 3,000 miles from Hanoi to Beijing.

I worked at Roscoe Moss while attending engineering school and before I went to China. I was a manufacturing engineer tasked with designing automated manufacturing machines to help produce the high quality perforated metal pipe used in water wells. I utilized McMaster Carr, CAD, and CNC tools to design and build the machines and controlled them using Allen Bradley PLCs.

I've always love motorcycles. After getting my bachelors degree, I headed to Wisconsin to work under Eric Buell designing and building motorcycles. I was a manufacturing engineer who designed parts for the new motorcycles and also helped optimism the assembly line.
