I do strategy, innovation, start-ups and disruption. Been in tech and "digital"​ since the introduction of transistors (I started v. young). I created my first company in mail-order electronics (specialising in all things Wireless) aged 17; designed a wireless gizmo that ended up in the UK's Science Museum in 1978 (Ambitune - http://m.usp.net/viper.usp.net/ambitune); sold my stake and founded Amstrad's golden age of computing in 1982 as General Manager of Computer Products, with my cohort Roland Perry. Not only did I survive Alan/ Sir Alan/ Lord Sugar, and escape in '85 (the last Amstrad computer product I had any direct input on was the PC1640 series), to start a software publishing business that became the boutique IT consultancy, USP Networks - but as someone pointed out, I invented "native media"​ as a tool of product and corporate marketing support. Except in those days, we called it "soft propaganda"​ - a step beyond "advertorial"​ and more subtle than native advertising.USP was Nominet member #26 - and many .uk domains we manage have a creation date of "before Aug-1996"Along the way, I gave Chris Anderson (now www.ted.com) the idea for cover mounts on his computer magazines, and provided office space for the first issues of Computer Shopper, as if Felix Dennis needed the help... Unusually, USP has used the same core team working together on internet ideas and systems for the past 28 years.Specialities: pioneer of corporate native media, original online concepts since 1992; invented ad servers in 1993 and CMS in 1994 before anyone knew what they were (including us). And the TrackPlus project was the Internet of Things 1997. Pioneered multicast IPTV and data over DVB Satellite (Enfocast) in 1999. I understand all wireless from first principles, and can readily flush out the BS being spouted around all IOT and 5G debates. Continually pondering the end game for all media delivery combined with viable and adaptable business models, and wondering why so little original thought or experimentation is evident in the marketplace.
