Roles:-Serving as principal representative of organization at the Maine State Legislature-Working with professional and volunteer leadership to support and grow our advocacy team, and developing strategic campaigns to win ambitious democracy reform at the state level. -Drafting and monitoring legislation related to democracy reform issues.-Organizing the League's non-partisan election observation program for all state elections at all stages, including training, execution, and reporting.-Representing Democracy Maine and our constituent organizations on advocacy coalitions, including Mainers for Modern Elections and the Coalition for Racial Equity.-Working closely with organizing team to connect project teams with external partners and potential volunteers.-Organizing and supporting local campaigns on relevant ballot initiatives such as local ranked-choice voting and municipal public campaign financing.Achievements: -Worked on lobbying and education efforts to pass several key bills in 2021, including online voter registration (LD 1126), a corporate contribution ban (LD 1417), ongoing absentee voting (LD 148), and expanded student ID use for voting (LD 1575). -Generated over 1000 pieces of constituent contact on priority legislation.-Primary staff lead on League election observation training and execution across Maine, and drafted post-election reports on 2020 primary and general elections based on over 300 observation reports from 200+ volunteers.-Drafted language for LD 1575 and supported drafting and testimony around other key legislation.-Assisted with organizing and outreach for successful 2021 local ranked-choice voting ballot initiative in Westbrook, Maine.
