As a Health Educator for Saint-Paul Ramsey County Public Health I work with the SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Partneship) Grant in all Ramsey County Public Schools with a primary focus in helping administer School Health Assessments, developing District and Building Wellness teams and also creating work plans to assess wellness goals as a tool to help develop district wellness policies. Another component of my position is to help school districts strategically and effictively implement their work plans and make sure they align with their district wellness policy. All these parts come together to build a sustainable infrastructure around healthy eating, physical activity, and smoking cessation through the means of policy, systems, and evironmental changes. My job allows me the flexibility to manage smaller mini-grants which are dispersed into the community to assist smaller local organizations in creating their own policy, systems, and environment changes to support a healthier lifestyle for all. A byproduct of this work is an ever growing knowledge of local entities, contacts, and their resources as well as future partnerships. I often engage in different community engagement activities and collaborate on larger projects such as HIA (Health Impact Assessment) with other organizations to help influence decision making regarding larger agendas.As a Certified Doula and Lactation consultant I am certified to aid and assist mother’s in developing a birth plan and assist them throughout all stages of their pregnancy. I also guide mothers in proper breast feeding techniques which are beneficial to both mother and child to help in the healthy nurturing and development of their babies. I am a resource for fathers to help them better understand the birthing process, take a more active and involved role in all stages of pregnancy and be an overall more supportive partner to their spouse to bring a more holistic approach to the family dynamic.

With WR Moore Certified Perinatal Educator And Consultants expectant mother’s get one of two of the first male Doulas in the history of the state of Minnesota and a Doula and Lactation Educator who is sensitive to their needs and most importantly an advocate for them in the Doctors office and throughout the birth process. The Doula services are available pre and post natal and mother’s also get someone who can support them and navigate the complications of breast feeding, babies first food, and an integral part of early childhood development. Expectant fathers get someone who can explain to them the birth process every step of the way without making them feel non existent and helping them find their voices and roles within this important part of life. As a Doula for fathers, men can expect someone who can be there for them to help them understand the mental, physical and emotional changes that they as men, as well as their significant others are experiencing and help them through those times with strategies for effective and adequate communication so that they can be the most supportive for their expecting spouses! Full Doula and Lactation services are available for moms, one on ones and group settings from me and also available for outreach classes for men with the use of our own curriculum! In my role as the Community Health Advisor I work with the Anoka County Community Health and Environmental Services Department to focus on supporting four unique school districts in Anoka County through policy, system and environmental change to build infrastructure that supports healthy eating, physical activity and smoking prevention. Through building these relationships and helping to implement policy change, the overall goal is to not only create healthy change but also make sustainable models in hopes that it can be duplicated in more districts and sites.

As a Youth Support Specialist for the White Bear Area YMCA I provide various social services to youth in the surrounding area as well as in the public school system acting as a liaison between the two. I run a learning loss prevention program which has doubled the amount of students who have reached their grade level benchmarks while reducing the proportion of students who haven't reached their grade level benchmarks from 63 percent to 21 percent. I am used as a vital resource between the school and families of students attending local elementary schools that collaborates with both parties to make sure academic, behavioral, and material resource gaps are closed. I have also been used as an advocate and lobbied on Capitol Hill to promote and support programs such as mine while lobbying for more funding for afterschool programs, promoting the Diabetes Prevention Act and Child Protection Improvements Act which were key pieces of legislation heavily supported by YMCA of the USA for the 2015 year.
