About William Sayer

After graduating from the University of Sydney (a top 25 University worldwide) with a distinction average in Design Computing, William was asked back to tutor the University's Interaction design course. Developing his design & prototyping skills further, William was hired as UX Lead for the growing mixed reality startup '345 Global'. Over the course of two years, he played a major role in designing a suite of B2B SaaS tools to be used by many multi-billion dollar FMCGs companies such as AB-InBev, Coka-Cola, P&G to list a few.More recently William has taken on jobs as a freelance web designer & low-code developer. With this experience, he's begun work on an entrepreneurial venture 'Big Meal Share', a web-app marketplace enabling neighborhoods to share home-cooked food with one another to strengthen local communities. He brings creativity, determination, and optimism with a roll-up-the-sleeves attitude to the work he engages in. As a Rubix cube is only ever 20 correct moves away from being completed, (you just need to know the right moves) William has a similar belief toward product design. Creating a successful product is the art of clearly understanding the problem and then creating the simplest solution.

We started by building on their design thinking experience, with personas and affinity diagrams. We moved onto low fidelity prototypes and user testing once each group’s concept had been thought through. After user feedback over multiple iterations the students developed a high fidelity working prototype which they presented alongside a explainer website. This was an incredibly rewarding process; not only did I fine-tune my own design practice in the process but learnt how to act as a leader in the group of 16 students which I was responsible for, in a professional and supporting manner. To raise money for the climb I contacted dozens of companies and raised media attention, successfully attracting sponsorship (as the youngest Australian) for a summit attempt in 2014. Unfortunately there was a tragic avalanche and we had to abort the climb. Four years later, with more support and experience I returned for another summit attempt which proved successful. After many months of acclimatizing and climbing, and with the help of Ang Dawa Sherpa, we successfully submitted the world’s highest mountain in May 2018. As a result of two fundraising pushes, and thanks to friends, family and generous supporters we raised over $16,000 for the Australian Himalayan Foundation, helping with healthcare and education in much needed parts of Nepal. Aside from the physical aspect, this experience taught me several things; Most notably that to achieve any big goal it should be broken down into smaller more achievable steps, this coupled with a disciplined approach and perseverance is what can transform dreams into reality.
