From his office in the company's Atlanta headquarters, Curtis oversees four managers, 71 employees, and millions of dollars of sophisticated equipment. He often rolls up his sleeves and gets in the trenches with his team. "Being in operations, I'm a behind-the-scenes guy," Curtis says, but his work is clearly visible to customers. Curtis and his department are charged with maintaining Global Payments' network at 99.92% reliability because "our business depends on whether our platforms are up and running," he says. "We have to maintain reliability for our merchants, every second of every day." His proudest accomplishment during FY 2007 was to process a single-day record of 8.15 million billable transactions during the height of the holiday shopping season on December 22, 2006. But his track record in maintaining a growing number of transactions on a consistent basis is a greater measure of success."I love the challenge we face every day at Global Payments," he adds. "The industry has changed dramatically and the infrastructure has become more complex, yet we're providing an even better product than we did when I joined the company 38 years ago."
