With the economic downturn CAT offered an attractive separation package. The offer, coupled with retirement eligibility and a strong desire for a 'second career', made the decision to leave relatively easy. This was a short season of volunteering for local ministries and getting some things done. It was relatively short and as another put it: "I managed to fail retirement.".

Managed and accountable for one segment of Caterpillar's undercarriage business. At one point, managed design and process engineering and manufacturing operations. Required a positive working relationship with manufacturing operations in several USA facilities, France, UK, China, Japan, and Brazil.

Managed small CAT facility in the UK w/$35M annual turnover and 65 employees.

As Grenoble's undercarriage manufacturing was the primary customer of the UK facility, this was a short term special assignment to work specific issues and prepare for the UK assignment.

Co-Manager responsible for the power-train, engine, and undercarriage component design group in the Hydraulic Excavator Design Center at the then joint venture company SCM (Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi).

An operations maintenance role specializing in plc machine controls. All aspects of support from normal troubleshooting to programming, redesign, and upgrades.
