Since the moment I decided to be a chemist in high school, I never thought being a synthetic chemist could lead me to see how “bright” and “shiny” the chemistry path could be. I found myself still amazed at how simple molecules can luminesce and being able to rationalize their properties and characterize them is something I am proud of. It is my goal to continue working in the field of materials chemistry. Though, my chemistry path started working for the flavour/fragrance industry for 6 years, back in Colombia. There, I had a glimpse in the team effort to develop new essences. After that, I had the opportunity to synthesize and characterize my first polymers with the aim to obtain viscoelastic properties while doing my MSc. Then, in my PhD research at the University of Alberta, I synthesized and characterized luminescent materials for optoelectronic applications. Besides, I had the opportunity to help to make some new chalcogenophene polymers. I am the kind of person who likes challenges and I would never say no to an invitation to walk, run and watch a movie. Taking part in outdoor activities is a fundamental part of my life. People could describe me as a quiet, thoughtful and good listener. Though, sometimes I shock people with a little bit of blunt honesty.
