William Tunnell is Principal Architect at WT Architecture. The practice specialises in dynamic contemporary architecture and urban design. William Tunnell has worked in the field of contemporary design for over 30 years, setting up in private practice in 1999. WT Architecture is emerging as one of the leading architectural firms in Scotland and its work now extends from the Scottish Highlands to the south of England.Private house design forms a major part of WT Architecture's work, and WTA have delivered award winning houses in Fife, Perthshire, the Scottish Borders, the Scottish Highlands and the Hebrides. With an increasing focus on delivering sustainable buildings that are both low in embodied and operational carbon, the practice is delivering projects that align with RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge objectives, including the renovation and extension of a Georgian country house in East Lothian, and a stand alone house on the wild Atlantic coast of Sutherland. The practice has also developed expertise in working with communities, and has delivered the Lottery Funded Sustainable Community Hub at Camuscross on Skye, designs for a new Iona Village Hall, The revitalisation of the ancient Crook Inn in the Scottish Borders, the community hub on the Isle of Eigg, and new community hall and bunkhouse on the Isle of Canna. Elsewhere WT Architecture have secured planning permission for visitor buildings at the Forth Bridge World Heritage Site.Projects have won awards from the RIBA, RIAS, Edinburgh Architectural Association, Glasgow and Dundee Institutes of Architects, Historic Scotland, and Scottish Civic Trust.William Tunnell gives regular public lectures and was a design tutor at Edinburgh University School of Architecture form 1999 to 2011.
