Innovation is born out of a balance of creativity, practicality, fundamental understanding, and good old fashioned dedication to the craft. It’s what moves us forward as an advanced society, and it is absolutely one of my greatest passions. Here are a few of my most recent innovations.Utilizing computational fluid dynamics and advanced 3-D parametric modeling, I developed an electrically actuated remote controlled 9000 gpm industrial water cannon that has 74% less friction loss, is smaller in size, and weighs less than the former leading competitive model. This allows more water/foam to be thrown further, increasing firefighter distance away from the danger zone, and protecting high value assets faster. This water cannon is currently being used on the truck that holds the Guinness World Record for the Highest Pumping Capacity Fire Engine. I also developed a relay assist valve that has 37% less friction loss than the former industry leader. This allows more water to be moved over longer distances, with less pumper trucks, reducing cost and helping save lives in rural and other areas where water supply is limited.Another industrial product I developed allows up to 500 gpm of water/foam flow to be established from a fixed position by clamping onto various objects. This allows firefighting and temporary fire protection in locations where it would have been impractical without costly piping and construction. Through the use of finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and a rigorous in-house developed testing program, I brought this innovative new device to market and was granted a patent (US9272171B2) for a mechanism I invented to achieve one of the range of motion requirements. The same mechanism was subsequently incorporated into the company’s flagship ground based water cannon.
