I am a competent FSE Officer based in the Aberdeen City Local Senior Officer (LSO) Area. My duty is the application and enforcement of the Fire Scotland Act 2005 and Fire Safety Regulations 2006. The following are the main responsibility within my role.Conducting Fire Safety Audits (planned, post fire and complaints) This brings me into contact with many different duty holders in a variety of buildings with different occupancy types. I always take a positive, professional and consistent attitude towards doing these audits. I feel that it is in my role to assist these duty holders make their premises compliant with the regulations with the minimum disruption and financial burden.But there are times when I have adopted a firmer position this is with building that pose a danger to people’s lives and enforcement or prohibition notices are the only option. Consultation with Aberdeen City Council Building Standards DepartmentI am the first point of contact for Building Standards Officers when plans are submitted for warrant application (these can include new builds or alterations). I have built up an excellent working relationship with these officers where I meet them one morning per week at their office for consultation and discussions new and on going projects. If a complex set of plans with a fire safety engineered solution are submitted we decide at these meetings if further support is required. In these cases where additional support is required I contact the North Service Delivery Areas Fire Engineering Support Team to request assistance. I then work with both the engineers and building standards to form a response to the architects.
