As Group Head of Sustainable Development (concurrent with corporate affairs and investor relations role), initiated and served as champion for the adoption of sustainability as a key business driver at all levels of the Company, as well as a key driver of socio-economic development in host and labour source communities across Southern Africa, West Africa, Australia and central South America. • Assembled and led a global team of sustainable development professionals at the corporate and operational levels, capable of addressing key sustainability issues such as health and safety, environmental management, carbon footprint, water, and socio-economic and community development.• Directed the development and execution of Group, country and operational sustainable development strategies, plans and tactics.• Directed philanthropy and corporate social responsibility across the Group through various country specific foundations.• Achieved global recognition for excellence in sustainable development and inclusion in the Top 5 in the Metals and Mining sector of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

Founding Head of Corporate Affairs, Investor Relations and Sustainable Development for the newly established Gold Fields Limited, formed from the merger of the gold assets of Gold Fields of South Africa and Gencor in 1998. • Built the new Corporate Affairs, Investor Relations and Sustainable Development discipline from the ground up.• Developed and implemented a new Brand and Corporate Identity for the Group as well as a long-term stakeholder engagement strategy.• Managed cultural integration following the merger and aggressively marketed the new Company to employees, host communities, investors and other stakeholders.

Managed the Group-wide Vulindlela Transformation Program aimed at revitalizing all aspects of the operations of Gold Fields of South Africa (GFSA), and to unlock value for shareholders. The final outcome was the dissolution of GFSA as an industrial and mining conglomerate, and the unbundling and sale of its non-core assets. Gold Fields Limited survived as a focused gold mining company and continued the heritage of the Gold Fields Group.• As Company co-lead conceptualized and designed the transformation program and sold it to the Executive Committee and the Board.• Assembled, managed and directed an inter-disciplinary and multi-stream team of approximately 120 consultants.• Developed a new strategic direction for the Group and its various business units, and advised the Executive and Board.

Directed and managed the Gold Fields Foundation, the Corporate Social Investment vehicle for Gold Fields of South Africa. Operating in all host communities and labor source countries of Southern Africa, the Foundation engaged in the funding and managing of a wide range of sustainable development, education, health care and environmental education projects.

Developed and executed advocacy, fund raising and communication strategies for the Johannesburg Child Welfare Society, the largest privately funded advocacy and service delivery NGO in South Africa.
