Building the capacity of fishery system stakeholders to scientifically assess and sustainably manage their fisheries. This has included building a set of tools and approaches to improve fisheries management in data-limited settings, such as a model to quickly evaluate and rate all of the threats facing an ecosystem to help guide management actions and policy design (the CARE model); a set of principles that facilitate successful scaling up of pilot projects; and a step-wise framework for developing and implementing a science-based, climate-resilient fishery management plan in a data limited setting. I have also worked in communities around the world to train and support users as they seek to utilize our resources for more sustainable and resilient fishery systems. More recently I have worked to understand and apply the principles of equity and environmental justice to our work, and to help the organization do so throughout all of our internal and external initiatives.

Exploring the principles of Decision Science, as developed in the fields of behavioral psychology and marketing, and identifying ways to apply these principles to improve the efficacy of environmental campaigns. Researching factors that impact why and how humans make decisions and adopt or change behaviors, as well as the various intervention techniques employed to impact decisionmaking and behavior change, in order to identify best practices that can inform efforts to elicit more sustainable choices and behaviors in a variety of disciplines.
