CurrentWe believe the most effective way to achieve policy change is by supporting and strengthening local policy actors. They are best placed to develop policy solutions which will work in their political environment. They understand how change happens - and doesn’t happen in their context. Our role is to work with our partners by using their local expertise and knowledge, and our extensive experience of policy-making and policy-influencing, to help them to bring about the change they want to see. We use a model of “peer-to-peer” support to strengthen think tanks, governments and other organisations interested in influencing and improving public policy. Kivu International specialises in: (1) Strengthening think tanks and research organisations Strong and effective think tanks, which carry out policy-relevant and politically savvy research, play a vital role in informing debate and influencing policy. We provide advice, support and mentoring to think tanks and research organisations in the developing world on policy analysis and research, communications and advocacy, governance and sustainability. We also work with academics to help them to conduct more relevant research and disseminate it to the policy community. (2) Improving policy-capacity within governmentsIn complex and politically-charged environments, effective policy development and delivery is one of the biggest challenges governments face. We work with politicians and officials to develop improved processes and governmental structures, which will improve both policy design and implementation.(3) Political analysis and advocacy strategies Successful policy change requires robust, policy-relevant research; politically-informed advocacy and building coalitions or support for change. We advise governments, think tanks and academics, civil society and donors, on how to develop high impact, politically savvy strategies, with the aim of achieving lasting policy improvements.
