I led the transformation of the newsroom from a traditional print organization to a digital-first news team with an emphasis on increasing audience through breaking news and innovative journalism; developing content strategy, with an emphasis on video and social sharing; and setting and analyzing performance against specific, measurable goals.I was responsible for the performance and management of the largest content vertical in the newsroom, with more than 60 reporters and editors on staff.

I led the strategic development and relaunch of GuideLive.com, the entertainment vertical for The Dallas Morning News, as a digital-only endeavor. I led a team of eight as a startup within The News as a pilot program to inform the reorganization of the broader newsroom and to serve as a companywide incubator for digital innovation.I was responsible for all facets of the business, including oversight of editorial production, vendor relations, marketing and strategy, revenue partnerships and product ownership/management.

I was responsible for developing new digital products, improving existing products and extending the brand’s reach. I assisted in developing broader strategies for the company’s digital business, including creating product road maps, building staffing plans, identifying marketing needs and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.As product owner, I coordinated and oversaw development and improvements to dallasnews.com, as well as the company’s tablet and phone apps on iOS and Android platforms, and coordinated ongoing projects with vendors and internal front-end developers.

I was responsible for cultivating ideas, hiring freelance writers, editing copy and managing the production of magazines and books for a publisher with an emphasis on sports collecting. My duties included researching and writing feature stories on professional and college athletes and sports memorabilia collectors.

I began my career as a newsroom clerk and advanced through the reporting and editing ranks to become night news editor at a daily community newspaper. My responsibilities included producing the news, business and sports sections and determining story play and page design.
