Heon Labs is a multidisciplinary organisation exploring technology enabled possibilities. Current projects include UXV urban integration, the potential impact of advanced manufacturing technologies on supply chain capabilities, IOT in the maritime environment and airport security.

The RNLI is nothing short of a uniquely awesome organisation. We've a vast array of incredibly talented, inventive and creative people who are dedicated to our vision - the end of loss of life at sea. A stretching, admirable goal. My role as Innovation manager will be to bring coherence to the way in which ideas emerge and are managed through to exploitation - be that finding a new way to raise funds through to creating a whole new value stream in terms of how we deliver our lifesaving service and save lives. I lead a small, agile team that helps the RNLI understand what the rapidly changing world means for it. I believe in setting bold, stretching visions for my team and help them achieve. It is when we achieve these goals that we demonstrate the alternative, potential future our organisation could direct itself towards. My team excels me in many ways and it is a privilege to work with them; we scrum 0905, we laugh, we enjoy each other's company, we know we are doing meaningful work and we ship it. It's bottled stardust.We achieve our goals by leveraging a mix of strategic planning and tactical, hands-on tools. I introduced the use Futures and Foresight methodologies to generate hypotheses about the future, and Technology Roadmapping as a means by which we can develop an externally endorsed, consensual vision of a market / technology / industrial sector. To ensure cross-organisational coherence and maximise exploitation of our work, I created a governance panel with an Independent chair to challenge the level of innovation in the programme and hold us to our promises. All work is done using a Quarterly Sprint methodology, ensuring we strip back features instead of pushing a project right. I emphasise the importance of MVP thinking, communication of outcomes and lessons learnt to inspire others to take action. I set up and help run the IMRF Future Technology Panel to facilitate collaboration across International Search and Rescue Organisations.

Working within MoD and across government driving the Innovation agenda and enabling the cost effective exploitation of emerging science and technology. Just about my dream job.

With a passion for bringing creativity and entrepreneurship to STEM Education, I founded STEM Futures in 2010. This project is on the back burner for now as I focus on my new (and very exciting role) at the RNLI...

Delivered inovative, high value research products across a myriad of technical domains.

Supported the development of a team of ~8 project managers, providing technical advice where appropriate and ensuring their CPD goals were challenging and achievable (SMART objectives).
