As a non-profit leader, I learned how to play every role in an organization, from strategy to ordering supplies. This experience gave me a deep understanding of the interactions, connections, and dependencies between departments and positions. When I’m working out big-picture problems, I go down into the weeds to research and analyze the details making sure I understand the impact from bottom to top. I listen to the people that are on the front lines doing the work to ensure that proposed insights and strategies are actionable and successful. One of my most notable achievements came while CEO and Pastor. As the leader, it was incredibly rewarding to see my servant leadership style shape the organization's culture. To be successful, I broke down barriers and rebuilt trust to turn around an underperforming organization. It was gratifying to see an organization and its people come back to life. When I took over faculty-led programs at Truman State University, they were encountering a variety of issues. There were no uniform policies and procedures for how programs should be administered, how risk should be managed, or how finances were handled. There were no goals, benchmarks, or accountabilities. Through research, needs analysis, and cross-functional collaboration, I developed repeatable and scalable standardized policies. I took an institutional problem and replaced it with best practices recognized by others as a precedent for other University programs that will help shape the organization’s future.Areas of Expertise:● Intuitively grasping complex problems and new information, seeing the big picture, identifying gaps, and finding entry points to move towards action. ● Navigating conflict and difficult conversations and building consensus in an empathetic way that opens people up. ● Finding commonalities, building relationships and bridges between people, and getting them to work toward the same goal. ● Tearing down barriers (finances, resources, people, time) that impede progress.● Managing and mobilizing change.● Leading with respect, helping others feel heard, driving engagement, and holding teams accountable.● Communicating and interacting with diverse audiences and translating complex information in understandable ways.Having experience at the top of an organization has made me a good subordinate—to be a good leader, you must also be a good follower. I understand and have successfully addressed organizational challenges by aligning large groups of people around common goals, mobilizing change, and driving operational excellence.
