I am a communicator, community builder and creative geek enjoying the wonders of Pure Michigan. Born and raised in Lansing, Mich., my husband and I joke we didn't make it far in life (we can both see the hospital we were born in from our front yard). However, being a long-time member of this community has taught me so much about what it means to connect with other people to create the best environments possible for each of us to succeed.I started my career in internal communications with a focus on building connections between colleagues and empowering employees to connect with their organization's purpose. I quickly moved into diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work and have profoundly appreciated the opportunities I have had to facilitate brave, inclusive work environments. Recently, I earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree through Wayne State University. I have found tremendous synergy between Communications and Social Work, particularly in the practice of assessing peoples' needs, using evidence-informed tools and practices to fulfill those needs, and regularly assessing the effectiveness of applied interventions. I am also a passionate volunteer in the Lansing area, working side-by-side with my neighbors to build our community. Whether volunteering with commercial associations to revitalize beautiful, historic parts of town or spending time mentoring my Big Brothers Big Sisters Little, I am grateful to play a part in building a community I am proud to call home.
