As the Head of Copy, my team of copywriters and I are responsible for all brand marketing material and policy document wording for our short-term and life insurance businesses. As a writer for this information specialist company, I had to ensure that all electronic articles and reports are factually correct, adhere to the strict legal requirements and offer content free of spelling and grammar errors. In conjunction with writing articles and reports, I managed the company's CMS.Due to my experience in the media industry, I consulted with other departments on a regular basis.

As the senior copywriter, my duties included managing the junior copywriters and advising them on their scripts, as well as writing and directing advertisements for clients, writing on-air and online copy across all four stations, and conceptualisation of promotional campaigns for advertisers.The Primedia Broadcasting stations are 947, 702, KFM and CapeTalk.

My duties as bilingual editor included editing and proofreading academic and professional books, dealing with authors and publishers, and ensuring the publication was complete and finalised by the time it went to the printers.

As a copywriter at South Africa’s largest independent radio station, my duties included writing station promotions, advertisements for clients, online copy and music reviews, as well as editing, proofreading and translating copy. I also proofread the company’s supplements included in Beeld and Mail & Guardian. I worked with major campaigns from conceptualisation right through to the execution on-air. Radio is a fast-paced environment and I performed well under the daily pressure of deadlines while I maintained a professional attitude combined with my love for language and creativity.

I was the sub-editor at ZOO Magazine since its launch in October 2006. My duties included language editing of the whole magazine (news, cars, style & fashion, entertainment, sport), validation of facts, translating and making sure the style is consistent throughout the magazine. Deadlines played a crucial part of my day-to-day activities.

As the sales assistant at Finweek magazine, I was responsible for liaising with advertising and creative agencies, dealing with their ad material and financial contracts. Other duties included doing the layout for the survey section of the magazine and dealing with clients on a daily basis.

What started as a part-time student position during the holidays, developed into a permanent position as a copy editor at Who's Who of Southern Africa - an annual biographical book that focuses on personalities in various professional fields in South Africa.
