Bill Kelso (Retired) is a pioneer in the financial planning and fee-based investment advisory industries. Beginning in 1983 when “Personal Financial Planning” was still an unknown profession, he associated with IDS/American Express, the foremost leader in the financial planning profession at that time. Since then, with more than 30 years of experience, he has assisted hundreds of families and individuals achieve their financial goals. During his five years with IDS/AMEX, he realized there was something lacking in the industry. Clients deserved more than the proprietary canned financial plans and structured commission-based investment portfolios that were offered by the industry. As a result, he left IDS/American using his background and skills as a CPA to create a more custom, fee-oriented approach to financial planning.Next, through affiliations with various independent brokers/dealers from 1988 to the present, he progressively enhanced trading and support platforms to better align client’s investment advisory needs away from “buy-and-hold” commissioned based portfolios to more dynamic market response -oriented fee-based portfolios. Along the way, he formed Financial Planning Strategies Group, Inc. and Alliance Financial Group, Inc., registered investment advisory firms (RIA), with the intent to move past the pedestrian methodology of investment management to a dynamic, esoteric management approach. He was instrumental in developing the fee-based portfolio management platform for SunAmerica Securities, Inc. In 2013, he launched a 401k subscription platform through which subscribers are able to benefit from many of the dynamic management strategies used in the proprietary esoteric models for their 401k plans.
