Wim P.J. Witjes started his career at the University of Nijmegen where he received the M.D. degree in 1984. During 6 years of practical training in surgery, orthopaedics and urology, he participated in several clinical research projects. Hereafter, he set his heart on clinical research. Since 1990, he is research director at the Department of Urology of the Radboud UMC, Nijmegen where he is now a part-time staff member. From 1990 to 1997 he received training in statistics, epidemiology and the methodology of clinical trials at the university of Nijmegen. He graduated to Ph.D. on May 21st, 1997 with the thesis entitled: "Micturition variables in the assessment and treatment of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms". Since February 1st 1997, he is the Clinical Research Director of CuraTrial, an office for clinical research that is now functionally integrated within the European Association of Urology (EAU). The Research Foundation of the EAU initiates and conducts clinical trials and registries throughout Europe. His main clinical research areas of interest are urological oncology (prostate, bladder, kidney) and benign urologic diseases such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction and incontinence. On March 30st 1998, he received his registration as an epidemiologist B. He is an active member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) and Board member of the EAU Research Foundation. He gave over 20 GCP courses for urologists participating in clinical trials / registries is an experienced auditor and authored more than 80 peer-reviewed papers.
