I am the CIMA Professor of Accounting & Financial Management and the Dean of Extended Education at the London School of Economics (LSE). Before becoming Dean, I was Head of Department of Accounting (2012-2022). I currently serve on the Finance Committee of the Royal Economic Society and on LSE Council (the university's Board of Directors) and its Finance and Estates Committee. Before, I served on the American Accounting Association's Board of Directors (2017-2020). I am on various Advisory Boards, including of Houghton Street Ventures, Impact Accelerator Powered by LSE, and the International Consortium for Values-based Governance.My research interests include mainly the study of performance measurement, evaluation, and incentive systems. I am the co-author of a leading text in Management Control Systems (Pearson, 5th edition). My various academic and practitioner publications can be seen elsewhere on my LinkedIn page. I have spent my principal academic career at LSE and the University of Southern California, and I have held visiting professor positions at Carnegie Mellon University (USA), Erasmus School of Economics (Netherlands), ESSEC (France), and Peking University (China).I served as the President of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA), and on various committees of the AAA, including its Council. I also contributed in several capacities to the European Accounting Association (EAA), including as the Chair of its Publications Committee, and other organizations, such as AICPA-CIMA, the world's largest member association for the accounting profession.I am currently the Editor-in-Chief of Management Accounting Research and serve(d) on the editorial board of a dozen other journals. I appear regularly at academic and practitioner conferences around the world as a keynote speaker, panellist, presenter or discussant, including for CFOs and a range of financial and management accounting professionals.
