Matogen is a B2B (business-to-business) software development house that I started with a couple of friends many-many years ago. We supply corporate customers with experienced commercial software developers.Our aim (and also my personal mission) is threefold.1) To save people time and money by automating their lives with excellent custom software solutions.2) To keep growing our team to stay at the pinnacle of our area of passion and commercial expertise.3) To create happy, sustainable work environments where everybody (including our customers) wins.In essence step-by-step and every day we try improving lives through the software we create.

I was privileged to chair my local ratepayers’ organisation as well as serve on the management committee for a couple of years. Since my town, Stellenbosch, is close to my heart, this was an enjoyable but also insightful experience, where I learned a great deal about the dynamics of politics and government. Today I am still a lifetime member of the organisation, but less involved due to time constraints.

I was initially approached by Riaan and Franco as a consultant, but later offered my services for free because I really believed in what they are doing (and still do!). I played a small role in initial strategic planning and project management mostly during 2010.My involvement gradually diminished over time as my responsibilities with my primary business venture (Matogen) grew, but I always remained passionate about HeatlhQ.Years later HealthQ acknowledged me as a co-founding member for the part I played - something which I consider a great honor and a privilege.

This is my first ever official venture. After I finished my bachelor engineering degree, I wanted to experiment with being an entrepreneur and registered this business under which I mostly worked as a freelancer developing websites for people, while attempting to do an M.Sc degree full time. Although the business is technically still running today it eventually matured into the company Matogen which is my current main focus.

Being an appreciator of amateur wrestling as a sport and also since there was no club in Stellenbosch, we started one.The club never grew very big, but we had lots of fun. I was the club chairman, manager & coach with sometimes a little help from other members. There were exercises throughout its existence of 2 years, with even a few tournaments we took part in (two of which we hosted).When I left campus the club unfortunately slowly died, and I forgot about it and started to focus on entrepreneurial ventures.One odd day (19 July 2010) I received a random Facebook message that really touched me. It was from one of our members. He said:"hi wim my name is dean,when i was 17 u use to be my wrestling coach.and i want to thank you for it,the lessons a learned there made me a better person.that was the best sport i ever did in my life.i always remember you saying "as jy iets begin volg dit altyd deur".and i always use that in my life.so thanks and God bless"
