My primary focus as a high school tutor is to support students with academics and executive function skills. I work with students in a variety of scholastic subjects, including Spanish, algebra I/II, physical science, history, and English language arts. In addition to providing academic support, I also help students develop key executive function skills that are critical to success in high school and beyond. These skills include task initiation, planning and prioritization, organization, time management, and defining and achieving goals. As Program Director, I had the honor of leading the organization towards a more strategic vision for program success. The Board of Directors recognized the need for a full-time program director and approved my proposal for a leadership transition. I began my journey towards effecting positive change in the organization, starting with two major accomplishments. My first major accomplishment was implementing a program spending tracking system. By analyzing spending patterns, I was able to identify strategic areas where funding could be allocated to drive program success.The second major accomplishment was a year-long pilot study to track student progress. As Program Director, I knew that our work was only as effective as the outcomes we were able to achieve for our students. I worked closely with teachers to develop a system to collect quarterly feedback on student performance in four areas that I believed to be positive outcomes of attending our program: quality of homework submission, frequency of homework submission, attitude towards school work, and in-class work habits. Additionally, I collected testimonials from parents and school staff about their experiences during the year as qualitative evidence of program impact.I am proud to have played a key role in establishing a more strategic, data-driven approach to program management and student success. Throughout my time as Program Director, I was committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and transparency within the organization. I worked to establish regular communication channels between staff, volunteers, and the Board of Directors, which helped to ensure that everyone was aligned around our shared vision for program success.

After a year and a half as a Site Coordinator, I saw an opportunity to expand my impact and proposed a supervisory position to the Board of Directors. They approved my proposal, and I was promoted to Program Coordinator, becoming the first full-time employee in the organization’s 20-year history.In my new role, I built upon the established program by implementing changes that reflected the needs and interests of our students and parents. Proyecto Montezuma provides month long training for educators interested in English as Second or Foreign Language teaching.In this role, I collaborated with my colleagues to design a comprehensive curriculum that covered a wide range of topics including multiple intelligences, classroom management, culture in the classroom, and effective lesson planning. Apart from facilitating lessons, I also coordinated free English classes for elementary school students and their parents to help them build their language skills. Together with my co-trainer, I provided support to an out-of-school time program that offered homework assistance and themed camps, helping students develop a love for learning.

I initially joined as an Office Manager and Substitute English Teacher. However, a transition in leadership led to my promotion to the Assistant to the School Director position. In this role, I provided support to families and staff from diverse linguistic and educational backgrounds.Apart from my responsibilities as the Office Manager and Substitute English Teacher, I assisted the Director in English interpreting during meetings and correspondences. I also aided in coordinating school events and provided administrative support for student enrollment. I joined as an English language teacher for pre-K through high school at a time when the school was actively recruiting native English-speaking educators and struggling with retention. As an experienced teacher, I was able to provide stable and effective instruction to my students, while also serving as a mentor and support system for fellow teachers. I developed and implemented engaging lesson plans and assessments that focused on developing language proficiency, critical thinking, and cultural understanding. Additionally, I collaborated with other teachers and administrators to improve recruitment and retention strategies, which ultimately led to a more diverse and stable teaching staff.
