SPECIFIC Innovation and Knowledge Centre is a leading centre for energy technology research and full-scale demonstration.Our vision is a world in which ‘Active Buildings’ can generate, store and release their own heat and electricity from solar energy. To deliver this, we research, prove and promote early commercialisation of building-integrated technologies that can capture energy from the sun and store it in a building until it is needed. We are also investigating the role for these buildings in our national energy and transport systems.Some of the technologies are developed here by our research teams, who specialise in scale-up of energy technology from fundamental materials chemistry to full-scale building applications. We also work with a wide range of business and academic partners to demonstrate and support early commercialisation of new renewable energy technology and systems.Buildings account for about 40% of global carbon emissions; in the UK they consume about 40% of all the energy produced. To address the energy crisis and reduce carbon emissions we need radical change in the way buildings are designed, built and integrated into our energy system: this is our mission.

I worked within the Placements, Projects and Study Abroad team, as part of the Student Information Office for the School of Management. My role involved business engagement, project and placement sourcing, and oversight of administration for Final Year Projects for Business Management undergraduates.

I was responsible for overseeing academic placements opportunities, study abroad and project sourcing for the final year industry projects within the School of Management. Managing a team of 3 Placement Coordinators, I worked closely with businesses, students and academic staff to maintain the highest level of service provision to all engagement stakeholders.Having worked on the team as a Placement Coordinator previously, I wanted to see the hard work we have put in thus far maintained and developed so that our students continue to have access to amazing opportunities to develop their real-world employment focused skills and abilities. Working directly with businesses at an undergraduate level is so important for the employability outcomes of our students and I am very proud of the work we do to continue delivering our objectives alongside the School of Management Careers Team.

As part of the Bevan Commission's integration into the School of Management, I was given the opportunity to support them during a critical time through the means of a short secondment. I worked with key members of the organisation in a project coordination capacity focusing mainly on their work in Prudent Healthcare. I found this secondment to be a highly valuable and rewarding experience for me and I was able to support the organisation in meeting significant deadlines for report delivery and project completion.

Whilst working as a multi-sector Recruitment Consultant for Work Wales, I continued my passion for sector leading industry research and successfully matching suitable applicants to opportunities, and company expectations.

In this role I worked as a Compliance Auditor for one of the UK's biggest recruitment companies. This peripatetic role involved travelling 5 days a week auditing the UK Branch Network, Strategic Client accounts and our external Panel Vendors. I also acted as a point of contact for the South West region, and London with regards to any Compliance queries. Part of this role was also to deliver training workshops and to offer advice and guidance on legislation, company policy and best practice.

I worked for Manpower Driving & Logistics in South Wales as a Logistics Recruitment Consultant.Regionally I covered from Cardiff East, all the way to Forest of Dean. I supplied companies with high quality, professional driving and logistics staff. This included, but was not limited to, Class 1, Class 2 drivers, 7.5t and 3.5t Drivers. I also dealt with specialist skills such as Lorry Mounted Cranes (HIAB etc), Lift truck (forklift etc), ADR drivers, Courier and delivery drivers.I developed skills in recruitment, sales and business development, marketing, account management, interviewing and shortlisting, targeted advert writing, Financial management of my "desk" and bid writing, among many other skills.
