The chief project executive for the OLE community, committed to providing innovative software platform on which to build a new generation of library services.. Develops and executes, in strong partnership with the OLE Board of Directors, strategic objectives and directions for the OLE Project. Provides innovative vision and direction for the OLE project that meet the current needs and expands the opportunities for the Partners. Represents the OLE Board and the project to internal and external parties including Partners, investors, higher education library community, and other open source communities. Responsible for all administrative aspects of the project including: negotiating and coordinating service agreements with both internal and external partners, vendors, and other projects; administering Partner services; recruiting and on-boarding new Partners; and administering fiscal and governance policies, procedures, and management services.

Provide leadership and oversight for strategic efforts by the University of Pennsylvania Libraries related to Kuali OLE Library Services Platform, the Global Open Knowledgebase (GOKb) that supports management of licensed and subscribed electronic content, and Researcher Services that enhance researcher profiles, business intelligence, and research data management. Provide direction for service design and local implementations, participate in and advise collaborative cross-library and cross-institutional teams, and engage with stakeholders to improve understanding of needs for and use of relevant portfolio services. Advocate for and architect portfolio services integration with existing and developing library and university services to improve data flows and reuse between systems, to provide ergonomic and efficient user interaction, and to leverage common and shared infrastructure for new strategic initiatives. Services in this portfolio includes Penn’s efforts to implement Kuali OLE, efforts to maintain and enhance portions of GOKb, implementation of Expertise@Penn that combines VIVO’s researcher networking and Symplectic Elements profile data aggregation and management, and deployment of data management planning using DMPTool. Additional responsibilities for this position are to engage deeply in the collaborative communities that nourish and develop shared investment and direction in software, data, and human capital. Beyond simply representing Penn’s interests, this effort includes providing technical and functional leadership, and participate in planning driven by strategic community goals and vision. Represent and advocate the value of these communities to the wider higher education domain through presentations, publications, and direct engagement with potential collaborators and partners. Contribute to the governance and sustainability of these communities including significant contributions in grant writing, strategic planning, and technical architecture.

Provide direction, leadership, and vision to the University of Pennsylvania Libraries for Information Technologies, application management, application development & technology planning. As Director and member of the Libraries’ senior management team, participate in strategic planning for the Libraries. Lead technologist for the Libraries. Responsible for data security in Libraries systems. Libraries representative to University Information Technologies Roundtable Governance Committee. Responsible for strategic planning, development and operation of enterprise level data center and computing infrastructure for a large research library. Implementation & operation of 3rd party applications such as the Libraries catalog. Development of innovative software to support the goals of the Libraries to provide world-class Libraries services for scholars, learners and researchers.
