Shared between two teams, I learned to create static and interactive graphics for print production and also honed my skills as an investigative and data reporter by scraping and cleaning data. I also helped to facilitate better collaboration between the two teams by fostering relationships that would grow to create more opportunities for deep investigations to be presented better, visually.

As part of a four-person newsroom, I controlled the sports beat and then some. I reported sports stories on and off fields and courts by live-tweeting events and shooting photo and video then interviewing players and coaches. I also reported most stories in the education beat and anything else that might come up, including some local politics, breaking news and community stories. Additionally, I would copy edit all pages of the newspaper each daily. I also worked to improve The Oak Ridger's social media and web presence, helping the publication achieve GateHouse Media's 'Inner Circle' certification.

I wrote stories and contributed photos for an online-only publication. I worked alongside the editor and publisher to ensure prompt and accurate reporting and was instrumental in breaking local news stories accurately and ahead of competition.
