I bring my experiences from working in practice and industry as a tax chartered accountant to my higher education teaching and programme leadership. I pride myself on developing innovative teaching and assessment techniques to enable my students to develop their business and employability skills through their learning experiences.Whilst at University of Exeter I have had a big impact on the design and delivery of the Business School’s “With Industrial Experience” programme and also the Accounting tripartite programme with KPMG and ICAS.I enjoy keeping abreast of technical developments in UK tax policy. I annually proof-read a UK taxation textbook, whilst also continuing to provide ad-hoc advice and be-spoke training courses.

During my UG course students find themselves giving advice to an “executive” in a lift, representing a client at a tax tribunal, researching a target client for a tax department and evaluating tax policies in the UK and elsewhere. -
Programme Director For Kpmg/Icas School Leaver'S Bsc Accounting ProgrammeUniversity Of Exeter Jan 2014 - Jul 2018South West, United KingdomEarly in 2014 the Business School Dean invited me to take over the Programme Director role for BSc Accounting: a tripartite undergraduate programme between the University of Exeter, ICAS and KPMG. The 160 students on the programme studied a four year degree programme, whilst being employed and working for KPMG and also studying ICAS professional accounting examinations.Leading the BSc Accounting programme I had full responsibility to maintain the academic integrity and student support for 160 students, with 20 staff involved with teaching, four cohorts on the programme, professional accreditation and teaching/examinations outside the normal University timetable. To help manage information and communication between all involved in the programme, I established regular monitoring of results and student/academics feedback to identify issues, following up to ensure issues are resolved and promoting areas of ‘excellence’ between academics. -

Senior Tax ManagerLloyds Banking Group Feb 2005 - Aug 2010I led the Bristol tax compliance team for the Lloyds Banking group which involved managing a team responsible for preparing and reviewing for the Bank; company tax returns, quarterly management reporting, financial reporting, forecasting and advising on technical tax issues.During my time at Lloyds a big project I took responsibility for was the capital allowances – which included working closely with the property team to design and get HMRC approval for an IT system to identify and code qualifying expenditure on a programme of branch refurbishments. I also prepared all the capital allowance claims for the main trading company in the group. -
