Extensive Java and J2EE work.Examples of specific contributions:* One of four managers and engineers directing from-the-ground-up technical development of the company's next-generation flagship platform.* Directed the multi-year development of a remote Java-based API for a complex core company product (distributed enterprise infrastructure).* Implemented WebDAV providers for two different company products.* Voted "Geek of the Year" at the engineering picnic (which I think is pretty good for a manager).

I did architectural work and consulting for a variety of Internet and online services initiatives within AT&T. That included playing a fundamental role in defining what became AT&T WorldNet Service. I did technical assessment/technology strategy, including site visits to potential external partners, technical negotiations, and liaison with internal R&D.Examples of specific contributions:* I was part of a small team (three people) investigating non-PC Internet appliances (game machines, set-top boxes, network computers, and PDAs). The investigation assessed market impact, the technical infrastructure requirements, and we proposed strategy principles for supporting such devices within WorldNet.* I was a member of an email policy team for AT&T WorldNet Service. My role was that of an advisor on technical/development matters as well as a subject matter expert on "rules of the road" for large Internet email services.I was also a developer for AT&T Mail, AT&T's commercial email and fax service. That included a variety of C/C++/UNIX programming projects related to provisioning information services. I generally assumed end to end project responsibility (requirements, development, test, deployment, documentation).Examples of specific contributions:* I designed and built AT&T Mail's SMTP gateway, bridging the proprietary environment to/from the Internet. This amounted to approximately 10,000 lines of new code prepared under a demanding schedule with frequently-changing requirements.* I designed and built modifications to DNS software (BIND) to interface to AT&T Mail provisioning systems. It included a unique feature for virtualizing the deployment of multiple split-horizon namespaces on a single DNS server.* I served on a corporate task force defining AT&T's Internet strategy.* I helped influence management to begin the migration of the internal AT&T Mail network to TCP/IP, abandoning proprietary (and expensive) network schemes.

This included hands-on development, project management, and personnel management done for contracts with US Government and commercial clients.
