At Lewis & Clark College, I serve as the inaugural Director of Emergency Management, charged with establishing a comprehensive emergency management program that ensures the institution, staff, and students are well-prepared to handle any future emergencies or disasters.My initial areas of focus include creating Standard Operating Procedures for the emergency alert system and Emergency Operations Center, drafting an Emergency Operations Plan, and conducting tabletop exercises to ensure that critical personnel are equipped and ready to respond.In addition, I am supporting the development of disaster recovery plans and enhancing the IT department's capacity to deal with emergency situations. To further bolster our preparedness, I am increasing emergency supplies for a post-earthquake environment and working with campus safety to enhance physical security measures. This includes expanding and upgrading the camera network and access control systems.Through my leadership, we are establishing a robust emergency management program that ensures the safety and security of everyone on campus. As the Interim Director of Campus Safety, I oversaw the 24/7 security operations on campus, managing a team of security officers and dispatchers. Through effective leadership and strategic planning, I ensured that the campus was safe and secure at all times.To support our security efforts, I liaised with local law enforcement and played a critical role in the threat assessment process. Through my expertise in security, I provided guidance and recommendations to executives on how to improve the safety and security of the campus.In addition, I was responsible for managing the security camera and access control systems, ensuring they were operating efficiently and effectively. I also developed and implemented new security procedures and protocols, which improved our overall security posture and reduced the risk of incidents.Through my dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the campus community, I was able to foster a culture of safety and preparedness among all staff and students. I'm proud to have played a vital role in creating a secure and supportive environment for all.

As Director of Emergency Management, I spearheaded the emergency management and business continuity of operations program for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I oversaw all aspects of the program, including managing the budgeting cycle, contract coordination, strategic planning, and personnel supervision of the Emergency Management Unit. I also provided consulting services to the 25 other UW System campuses across Wisconsin, leveraging my expertise in emergency management and business continuity planning.In addition to supporting our campus and others throughout Wisconsin, I advised campus executives during emergency operations by providing incident and root cause analysis, implementing emergency policy decisions, and serving as a liaison to campus constituencies. I played a critical role in ensuring effective decision-making during critical moments, ultimately ensuring the safety and well-being of our campus community.Beyond emergency management, I provided leadership on various university-wide committees and efforts, including crisis communication and public alerting, public health planning, and LGBTQ+ outreach. With extensive experience in project and program management, I successfully facilitated meetings and resolved conflicts to achieve our shared goals.

As Emergency Management Supervisor, I provided oversight and supervision of the Emergency Management Unit, managing a team of six full-time employees that included civilian planners, police officers, security officers, and office assistants. Under my leadership, we successfully coordinated the development and maintenance of the University Response Plan, ensuring that it remained current and effective. Additionally, I oversaw the training and exercise program for the Emergency Operations Center and Executive Committee, enabling them to respond effectively to any emergency.One of my key responsibilities was managing the development and maintenance of Occupant Emergency Plans for each of the 147 buildings at UW-Madison. These plans provided essential life and safety information specific to each building and were critical to ensuring the safety of our campus community.In addition to my work in emergency management, I managed the UWPD First Responders, a student-based EMS service with over 40 members. As part of this role, I oversaw weekend shifts and special events, ensuring that the service operated at an EMT-Basic level and that our campus community received the best possible care.

As an Emergency Services Coordinator, I played a critical role in ensuring the safety and preparedness of clients at UW-Madison and other institutions within the UW System. One of my key responsibilities was providing Continuity of Operations planning, training, and exercise assistance, ensuring that our clients were prepared for any potential emergency.To support our campus-wide emergency response efforts, I participated in the planning and execution of tabletops and functional exercises, allowing our team to identify gaps in our emergency response plans and develop strategies to improve our response. Additionally, I was a key contributor to the maintenance of the campus' Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and served as Deputy Manager of the EOC during activations.Overall, my expertise in emergency management, planning, and training enabled me to provide critical support to our clients, ensuring that they were prepared for any potential emergency. My ability to think strategically and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams allowed me to make significant contributions to our campus-wide emergency response efforts.

Part-time instructor of emergency management in the Criminal Justice associate degree program at Madison Area Technical College. Updated the curriculum to include business continuity planning and current understanding of crisis communication.

Coordinated the updating and maintenance of 92 facilities’ EPCRA; response plans for extremely hazardous substances on-site. Also supervised the update of the countywide all-hazard mitigation plan.Created and managed the Winnebago County Public-Private Partnership, Inc., a non-profit corporation. Coordinated development and use of $25,000 in grant money to establish the organization with a mission of preparing businesses for natural and man-made disasters.
