Dispersion is a collaboration between myself and accomplished designer Jamie Wirkler. We are exploring the integration of LED illumination as a primary element of design, on balance with form, structure, and materiality. We use pixel-controlled LEDs to embed light within sculptural art, architecture, and everyday objects.

Stemming from a desire to work in an inspiring, vibrant space, my friend and co-founder Jen Lewin and I devised a plan to create The Studio (Boulder), a creative workspace and event venue. Our vision came to fruition and is now one of the premiere venues for work and play in Boulder, CO.

I direct board meetings, inform and vote on actions on behalf of the board, and consistently provide technical expertise to inform remedies to specific issues within the building.With consistency and respect, I field myriad inquiries and concerns by general members of the HOA.

The small Jen Lewin Studio team works intimately together to create and exhibit world-renowned interactive art. The team creates immersive light and sound environments that encourage public interaction and play. Jen Lewin's art can be found in permanent, international exhibits or experienced in temporary installations at major events worldwide.I worked to integrate technology in creative ways into these pieces. I designed and deployed customized systems of computer hardware, sensor technologies, wireless and wired communication schemes, and power systems. This process involved design, prototyping, component sourcing, fabrication, rigorous testing, and installation. With the Instrumented Intelligence group at SapientNitro, I worked to instrument the world around us to quantify the qualitative nature of our daily experiences. I helped create bespoke sensor-enabled instruments and experiment to repurpose existing "Internet of Things" technologies to capture data and tell narratives on how consumers use products, interact with a retail environment, or carry out their daily routines. - Research and development of bespoke sensor-enabled instruments and off-the-shelf platforms to gather data for instrumented consumer intelligence research studies; - Comprehensive understanding of the “Internet of Things” realm and its various applications, including data gathering in homes, retail environments, and offices; - Perform hardware development, proof-of-concept research study deployments, data processing, analysis, and reporting.

Nexant's Utility Demand Side Management services include strategic planning and design, program delivery and management, measurement and verification, and program evaluation for utility's DSM offerings. My work with Nexant touched on all of these services, and provided me with a broad, but also substantive, knowledge of the industry. - Engineering and analysis for utility DSM programs; Experience with market characterization studies, end-use and load profile studies, DSM potential studies and evaluations, implementation of various programs, and program measurement and verification; - Implementation of statistical methods for market assessments and program evaluations; - Implemented Nexant’s web-based program tracking software, TrakSmart, for three energy efficiency incentive programs for JEA, Jacksonville, Florida’s municipal utility.- Management of engineers, analysts, and administrative staff during three long-term projects totaling over $1M.

I provided support and direction in the design and production of various large-scale, interactive, public art installations that have included a laser harp, robotic moths, and a quarter-acre light environment.I played a large role in the design of electronics and the physical structure for these pieces.I carried out much of the production, including the sourcing of materials and electronic parts, bills of materials, inventory, assembly, configuration, and testing of all components.I gained a great deal of experience developing with the Arduino microcontroller, using the Amtel ATmega168 chip.Three major projects I worked on made use of Digi International’s XBee module, a low-cost, low-power RF modem using the 803.15.4 protocol. One of the projects consisted of 106 XBee modules successfully forming a peer-to-peer network using the XBee’s API mode.I facilitated and oversaw the packaging, transport, installation, and operation of several pieces to high-profile events around the country including the Wired NextFest, a permanent city display in Imperial Beach, California, and Ingenuity Cleveland.Through all of this, I took pride in communicating effectively with customers, suppliers, and the general public about the technical aspects of the pieces.

At Huntley, I assisted engineers with on- and off-site tasks related to a wide-variety of civil engineering projects. I conducted infiltration and inflow metering of sewer systems in Palmer, MA and Hadley, MA., carried out percolation and soil suitability testing of residential lots, performed chemical analysis of groundwater for the town of Deerfield, MA, and oversaw ongoing construction observation of a roadway rehabilitation project in North Adams, MA.Throughout this work, I assisted engineers with drawing and editing site plans and various other plans using three packages of the AutoCAD program.

The Hampshire Educational Collaborative Academy (HEC) is a public-private partnership high school. At HEC, I taught a full schedule of high school courses to “at-risk” special education students, including designing my own semester and weekly lesson plans for each class.I excelled in employing behaviorist methods with students, including incentive programs, to foster a productive learning environment that also promotes positive social skills. After proving myself, I was quickly promoted. In my new role I took on accounting tasks for the student's "token-money" system, aided in overall operation of the school program, and supported the head teacher with various managerial and disciplinary tasks.
