About William J. Tomlinson, Ph.D.

William J. Tomlinson, Ph.D., is the Director of the Software & Application Innovation Lab (SAIL), at Boston University (BU). As Director of SAIL, William is responsible for overseeing the operations and long-term plans of SAIL, while working closely with the Director of the Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science & Engineering to integrate SAIL software engineering appropriately throughout the spectrum of research projects and programs at the university. Prior to joining BU, William held the roles of Principal Engineer and Group Leader (Technical Manager) at Draper (Cambridge, MA), where he demonstrated proficiency in servant technical leadership, business development, strategic planning, and program management. William received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University and an M.S. and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University and North Carolina A&T State University, respectively.
