Member of one of the first cohorts to train and certify at both National EMT and National EMT-Paramedic levels in addition to North Carolina EMT and EMT-Paramedic certifications. Joined the Guilford County EMS team at the personal invitation of the Director of EMS, Jim Finison, one of America's early pioneers in the development of modern day EMS.North Carolina EMT-Paramedic certification still active (Through 2019).

Worked directly for the President of the Mid-South Division of Humana, Inc. However, worked independent of direct in-state supervision.Areas of responsibility included establishing new Humana office sites; certificate-of-need work; project specific public affairs and legal services coordination; community leadership and government interface; physician engagement and new hospitals development in Atlanta, GA; Columbia, SC; Hickory, NC; Lake Charles, LA; and New Orleans, LALeft role through promotion within Humana to the CEO role within a community hospital in Darlington, SC, still within Humana's Mid-South Division.

Following graduation from the University of South Carolina Graduate School of Public Health, received an invitation from Humana, Inc., to enter a formal, paid hospital administration residency. The program covered local, regional and corporate-wide operations. Training involved direct education; on-site training and testing; leadership assignments and rotations through administration, clinical services, planning, finance, legal services, engineering and public affairs. Early promotion from hospital administrative residency program (scheduled for one full year) after five months to become the Regional Project Director (new markets development) working directly for the President of the Mid-South Division of Humana, Inc.

Completed one of the first American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons' emergency medical technician (EMT) courses offered in the United States and in so doing, became the first EMT within the agency and one of the first in North Carolina. Upon completion of basic EMT certification, became Rockingham County EMS' first Chief of Training (Training Officer). Developed, conducted and coordinated training and education programs leading to the eventual training and certification of all staff within the agency as state EMTs. Also responsible for all medical and rescue training within the agency and cross training with area fire and police departments.
