Conducted an internal strategic assessment the RNAi therapeutic space that led to a large in-house research effort, that was aligned with several external collaborations, focused on the identification of nanotechnology-based carriers for the delivery of novel siRNA cancer therapies.

Responsible for the strategic direction of Abbott’s early antiviral drug discovery effort. The department included a large multi-disciplinary team of chemists and biologists focused on all aspects of small-molecule drug discovery, from target identification and screen development to late-stage medicinal chemistry efforts that yielded development candidates for treating HIV and HCV infections. In addition, the team successfully advanced major research efforts in other antiviral areas including influenza and Herpes viruses. Prior to 1996, held several technical and team management positions at Abbott and Pfizer (Groton) focused in the infectious diseases (antibiotic discovery) area.
