Research ScholarUci Medical Center - Center For Tissue Engineering Jan 2020 - Jun 2020Irvine, California, United StatesFor this project, I worked in an on-campus research lab under Alan D. Widgerow at UCI Medical Center. The goal of this project was to create a device that generates micro nanobubbles by combining saline and pressurized oxygen to stimulate wound healing for patients with chronic wounds. These micro nanobubbles are paired with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) to not only clear exudate from the wound but also oxygenize the wound to salvage tissue. The bubbles are administered to patients and a vacuum then sucks out the exudate. In a group, I helped examined the mechanisms and components of a micro nanobubble machine and its corresponding Arduino code. In doing so, I altered and analyzed the code for an increasingly comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms as well as the organization of code. I also created 3-D CAD models utilizing OnShape for the micro nanobubble machine and its additional components. Once the team finished our preliminary research, we innovated and designed a more compact, portable, and user-friendly micro nanobubble device. Within the team, I contributed to another 3-D CAD model for research grants and proposals. We were able to design the device in a compact form while maintaining its vital components. In addition, we also did market research to compare other NPWT devices in the market to create a business model and market proposition.
