I started in the fire service as a volunteer while still in High School. After vocational school, I discovered that a full-time fire service career was more rewarding and became a member of the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District in 1979, which merged with Reno in 2000. I found a new passion, taking training, participating in a variety of special projects, and gradually advancing through the ranks to Chief Officer. I have had the privilege of being an EMS Coordinator and Instructor, a member of the Regional Hazardous Materials Team (23 yrs), the Technical Rescue and Water Rescue Teams at TMFPD and Reno. I discovered the fun of sharing my knowledge and experience through instructing a wide variety of fire service subjects, for the department, the local community college, and independently. I have had the opportunity to be a member of Type 2 and Type 1 (National) Incident Management Teams, working on forest fires in 9 western states. I have been fortunate to work for both rural/suburban and urban/metro departments, which has allowed me to experience almost every aspect of the fire service. I had the honor of serving as the Emergency Manager for the City of Reno (three years). I look forward to furthering my fire service career in the years ahead."To love what you do and feel that it matters -- how could anything be more fun?"--Katharine Graham, American publisherSpecialties: - Incident Command, ICS- Wildland/Urban Interface- Wildland Fire Behavior Analyst- Hazmat Technician/Incident Commander- Emergency Management, EOC Operations- Automatic and Mutual Aid Agreements- GIS/CAD for incident dispatching, EMD- Public Information and Public EducationExperience in:- Response stats and Standards of Cover- Grants, Mgt. of special projects- Apparatus specs- Swiftwater, Dive, Tech Rescue- Labor negotiations
